What is Full Array Local Dimming (FALD)?

Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) is a display backlighting technology that divides the LED backlight array into independent zones, each of which can be dimmed or brightened based on the content being displayed. Unlike edge-lit backlights — which treat the entire panel as one zone — FALD delivers zone-specific luminance control, resulting in higher contrast ratios, deeper blacks, and lower power consumption.

Display Logic's proprietary FALD product is called FlareFull Local Array RGB Enhancement. Flare is engineered specifically for commercial and rugged environments: broadcast monitoring, medical imaging, outdoor digital signage, industrial HMI, and aviation navigation.
